Considered by many as one of the most promising & versatile Electronic South African producers, Thakzin counts his peers Shimza, Themba or Black Coffee as some of the most prominent ambassadors. His genre-bending universal sound is fusing forward-thinking South African genres with the roots of a wider African culture and many Urban & Electronic influences from around the world.
Born of a South African & Mozambican family of musicians, Thakzin is a contemplative life observer who discovered djing in his early teenage years & dived into the culture to become the versatile & uplifting DJ he is today. Back in 2010, he started to learn music production, drawing a long path of experimentation, and developing the musicality & versatility of his sound signature. Inspired by the Sangoma’s Zulu Traditional Healers (based on drum rituals to heal physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually), Thakzin has a profound belief in the healing power of music and the virtues of spiritual elevation & positive energy through the universality of dancing.
Internationally, his productions have been supported by a wide range of A-listers: Benji B, Folamour, &ME, Rampa, Adam Port, Dixon, Atjazz, Osunlade, Louie Vega, Pablo Fierro, Jimpster, Eric Kupper, David Morales, Michel Cleis, Floyd Lavine, Hyenah, Laurent Garnier, Oscar P, Hector Romero, Rocco Rodamaal, Emmaculate, Manoo, Fred Everything…
He co-produced Themba’s “Sound Of Freedom” released in 2021, one of Themba’s most popular tracks on Spotify (2M streams across the board). A DJ at heart since his early years, Thakzin is a prolific performer in South Africa and is preparing his first European & Asian tour dates for the Summer & Autumn of 2023.
In 2022, he released the smash hit "ICU" in collab with Sun-EL Musician & Thandazo on Rocco Rodamaal's 'Memories' imprint and collaborated on quality releases with Nana Atta, Vitoto, Oscar MBO & Mörda amongst others. Thakzin's last single "The Magnificent Dance'' (released in Dec 2022 on Sondela) was one of the most viral tracks of the South African summer & is causing a stir globally, reaching the #1 position on Beatport in Amapiano, the Top 3 on Traxsource Afro House and has been streamed around 500K times. His latest single "Don't Let Me See" on the Premium UK label Foliage maintained to build a strong bridge with the UK audience & Dj's community.
The summer will be hot for Thakzin with some remarkable releases & remixes lined-up : Deep House legend Jimpster remixed his recent Don't Let Me See single on Foliage (June 2023), while Thakzin himself remixed the latest single of Stay True Sounds headhoncho and Defected's A&R Kid Fonque with beautiful vocals of Jazzanova's Clara Hill (July 2023). Shimza's own Kunye imprint will also release the very hyped Possessed tune, breaking deeper ground of the 3Step sound in late July. Rocco Rodamaal & Dairmount's Memories will release another special gem called Men & The Birds on September 1st, perfectly in time for the end of the Summer Festival season.
