HERAS - The genre hopping label from the people behind Sports Banger

There’s a serendipitous inevitability to Johnny Banger finally getting around to starting a record label. The Sports Banger boss cut his teeth in record distribution and rave promotions before founding the Sports Banger brand, which has become synonymous with rave culture. Heras is the operations record label arm and sees Sports Banger curate a roster of emerging and established talent. “It’s named after Heras fencing,” explains Johnny. “Which is the fencing you always see around the perimeter of festivals or on building sites. We started by approaching producers we wanted to work with and said ‘make something that sounds like this’. They get it straight away. It’s hard, industrial, metallic but also a design classic.”

The first release on the label came in 2020, the tough but playful and inventive ‘Doberman’ EP from Edinburgh techno veteran Neil Landstrumm while further releases coming from Benton, COOP and the forthcoming debut release from touted producer Henry Buck. “The label’s not a throwback and it’s not a full-on tear out rave label either,” explains Johnny. “It’s more about us curating something and working with the people we want to work with to create something special. We want it to encapsulate good music across the board.”
