Party Response with ARLO

‘Party Response’ is a show that represents Bristol Dance NRG!

About

While Covid was in full swing I decided to start a new concept. I’ve been involved in the music industry for 15 years now and wanted to try something new. So I started Party Response. The concept behind Party Response was to look at the ways we’d partied/danced/socialised. We had all these basic things taken away from us so now I felt it was a good time to look at that and reflect on it. I wanted to started a movement that captured what I had experienced when I was growing up in the 90s. I wanted to look at the diversity/culture/togetherness (A Dance Energy) with the late rave scene and early jungle scene. Being from Bristol I’ve been super lucky so have seen the rise of certain sub cultures IE Jungle/Drum & Bass, Dub Step, UKG, House & Techno.

So I felt it was a right time to explore my dance culture & heritage…. There was certain things I had been brought up with within the dance culture that I felt we had lost and I felt this was something I wanted to include within The Party Response brand. Growing up in the 90s there was always a mix of different creeds & cultures & sounds in the crowd and behind the decks. In laters years I feel we had lost this diversity/rawness and this was something that upset me just as much as a raver/DJ/Promoter. So moving forward I wanted to make sure I have full diversity within everything I do with this.

In November 2020 I was asked if I wanted to take part in a new Bristol community based radio station called SWU.FM. I thought this would be a perfect way to organically start
The Party Response brand. So the concept with the radio show was to a 2 hrs show once a month. Where I would play music I was influenced by growing up or had made made myself.
After the first few shows I started to invite friends along to DJ with me or to bring their new music for me to spin.

Again going back to what I was talking about with diversity & sexuality. I wanted to have a mixture of men & women DJs from all different backgrounds this is still early days but I have already started to archive this with some of the past guests: A For Alpha, NYTA, Ryussi & Dirty Rice (US House & Garage collective) Broken Beat DJs (DJ Wheel Up & Oliver Night) & Sophie Red & Groovy Love Club & Smutlee (YO!YO!/Melbourne) All playing a mixture of House, Techno, Ama Piano, Disco & Boogie, Broken Beat. Also regarding the music that I have been playing on the show it’s key for me to play a mixture of music from Black & White, Male & female LGBT artists new & old.
