Manuel Darquart

Adventures in Paradise is a mix of old gems and modern delights

About

The son of a jazz singer with an early musical schooling from his parents’ George FM mix CDs, producer and DJ Manuel Darquart came up on the Auckland music scene jamming at parties thrown by the likes of Frank Booker and Recloose and where international acts like Jack J, Roland Tings, Max Graef and Harvey Sutherland would occasionally roll through. His infatuation with house music and the art of DJing was sealed on a trip to New York where he witnessed Detroit godfather Theo Parrish play filtered white noise for 10 minutes in the middle of a set. In his new hometown of London a few years later, he finally got his hands on a Korg M1, the catalyst for a hot, balmy house sound that's been honed on a run of records for underground staples like Planet Trip, Wolf Music & Slam City Jams.

Then there’s the long-running radio show, Adventures In Paradise, that sees Manuel Darquart spin an irrefutable mix of Italo disco, generation-spanning house music, boogie jams, cuts spun in Ibiza pre ‘88 as well as the best new Balearic b-sides that’ll spin your head and, of course, the best un-Shazamable bargain bin finds from all of the above.

From the red-lit basements of London town to DJ booths around the world, Manuel Darquart's keen ear for iridescent house music will always make you feel like you're dancing under the stars at a party that you never, ever want to end.
