About

“I’m a very mood based person, and I’m very particular,” John Glacier says. “If I’m in a mood to do something, I'm gonna find a way to do it.” Her self-description ranges from bubbly, sparkly and determined to shy, not social, “in her head.” In a few short years, Glacier has carved out a space in the UK music scene as a singular artist and lyricist.

2024 sees her return with debut album Like A Ribbon. It follows her collaborative tape JGSG with Surf Gang, 2021’s SHILOH: Lost For Words, and her 2023 signing to Young Recordings. Like A Ribbon is more “laid back, stripped and upbeat.” Split into three parts—Like A Ribbon, Duppy Gun, and Angel’s Trumpet—the album marks a sonic and personal shift from SHILOH’s introspection to new life and growth.

The project features producers like Surf Gang, Andrew Aged, and lead collaborator Kwes Darko, shaping a multifaceted aural universe. With stream-of-consciousness delivery, Glacier explores her journey from Hackney to the world. Each chapter presents a fantastical world grounded in just enough reality: “If I’m going to intentionally curate a project, I’m going to do it in chapters… then here’s the book.”

Raised in Hackney, second eldest of seven, of Jamaican heritage, music surrounded her. Originally into poetry, she began experimenting on Logic in 2017. Her breakout moment came with SHILOH, followed by widespread acclaim and collaborations with fashion brands like Burberry and Lacoste.

Still, she insists, “I have to have an outlet. And I need music as an outlet.” Her music remains diaristic and unfiltered: “Whether that’s mundane or exciting, wherever that is either side, that is it.” With each project, Glacier invites listeners further into her world.
