About

"DJ Funky Flirt is known as one of the veterans of DnB and has been there right from the early days of the rave scene, still being as relevant today as he was back then. He gained the name Funky Flirt from an ex girlfriend for obvious reasons although now the only flirting he does is with his tunes and trusty decks.

Like many of the other pioneers in the scene his musical roots started in the 80's reggae era where he spent many hours studying the various different sound systems. This love of dancehall reggae music inspired him to set up his own sound system called 'Champagne Sound' at the tender age of 18 which cemented his love of DJing and prepared him for the many musical successes he achieved in the years that followed.

Crossing over into the world of Drum & Bass followed easily after he was encouraged to attend a number of the early groundbreaking raves of the era by friends. He partied at the likes of Biology, Sunrise and Clapham Common and was inspired by a number of DJ's at the time one of his favourite being DJ Ron.

Flirt's first gig was at the Thames Barrier Arms which further fuelled his passion to play. He began playing on various radio stations such as Sunrise Radio and LSD which led to him being talented spotted by a number of promoters of some of the bigger events and he found himself being booked for the likes of Telepathy, Adrenaline Village, Roast at the Astoria, Biology, Dreamscape, Slammin Vinyl and many others. From his humble beginnings he found himself also hosting his own nights at Bar Sol Covent Garden and also holding residencies at Telepathy and Jungle Fever to name just a few. His radio presence was also on par with his live Djing and after being resident on Rush FM in the early 90's he found himself developing a close working relationship with Eastman which spurred him onto his still current, regular shows on the legendary Kool FM alongside him being part of the management team for the station. You can tune into his shows alternating Sundays between 7pm & 9pm GMT at Koollondon.com

Throughout his career he has worked collaboratively with some of the biggest names in the business including the late great Stevie Hyper D, Ronnie Size, Jenna G, Mc Dynamite and countless others; too many to mention! To date he is still as relevant as he was back then with performances under his belt at Innovation in the Dam, Jungle Fever, Jungle Mania and more, with bookings for SOS Ibiza, Tranz-mission Festival, Moondance and countless others all lined up for the near future.

Funky Flirts passion for the music is apparent when he plays and he thoroughly enjoys every set whether it be on radio or at a live club night. His technical skills are second to none and he has the professional ability to work with a crowd in a way that only comes with many years experience of playing to audiences on a variety of different platforms.

His current projects include the launch of his new record label 'Slughouse Music' where you can find collaborations with some of the biggest artists in the scene; radio shows, mixes and merchandise which is an exciting new step in his career. More information can be found at www.slughousemusic.com He also continues his residency at Jungle Fever, his regular weekly shows on Kool FM and is in the planning stages for once again starting up his own club nights under the brand names 'Menace to Society and 'Old Skool Players' Watch this space for more feet bumping productions and collaborations coming from the Funky Flirt corner!
