About

The Zoo was created in 1999 at l'Usine. The space followed Debido, a popular eatery in the 1990s. Numerous music events took place there, prompting its occupants to transform it into a hub for electronic subcultures and dance in 1999, discontinuing food sales. The Zoo operates as a self-managed association, organized horizontally without established leaders, by and for its members. Decisions are made collectively by all individuals (around 100) with one voice equaling one vote. This structure demands discipline, initiative, accountability, meetings, and discussions to reach consensus and evolve together. Any member can propose an idea, have it validated, and execute the project. This participatory approach empowers members to emancipate themselves and gain skills related to the cultural sector. With over a hundred events annually, The Zoo attracts tens of thousands of revelers, artists, curious individuals, tourists, and expats. Its regular audience comes from across Switzerland, France, and Europe.
