Chickaboo

Chickaboo, the first woman Jungle MC, vocalist, songwriter, and mentor whose career began in 1992 through performing with GE Real at original big raves Fantasia, Dreamscape and Jungle Fever; on to seminal club nights, numerous festivals, PAs, stage shows with the likes of DJ Dazee, DJ Craze, DJ Storm, DJ Bailey, and many more.

Chickaboo later exploded into the breakbeat scene and before long was working with top artists Superstyle Deluxe and Rennie Pilgrem - whose band TCR Allstars she became frontwoman of.

Boo has also written, performed and recorded vocals for Timo Maas, scoring a top 40 UK single with Shifter; General Midi, Suda (Faithless), Bitches Brew, Jeans Jacques Smoothie, Stabilizer, and BLIM. In 2004, Chickaboo started working with the original Funky Dred - Jazzie B OBE - and toured with the Soul II Soul Sound System for 12 years, taking in festivals, intimate parties, corporate events and the Back II Life festival in Antigua, as well as having supported artists like Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Blondie.

Throughout her career Chickaboo has been an unwavering advocate of a more inclusive music industry. She's currently a resident MC for queer night Unorthodox, Rupture, and continues her work as a mentor and core organiser of EQ50 - a collective working towards fairer representation in dance music.
