DJ Chef started in the belly of the beast in East London being schooled by UK Hip-Hop legend DJ Leader1 & The East Avenue Gang who were his first raving crew back in the 90’s.
Being a Hardcore raver since 1990 with the east Ave crew, Chef first picked up the mic and would chat over the crews dj bedroom sessions and would try and grab a mic at any event the crew were playing at then in 91 chef began practicing on the decks in his mates house and started buying more records and raving 4 times a week this gave Chef the training ground to listen to his favourite DJ's like Randall , Hype and Fabio and then began to listen and learn how to develop and craft seamless mixes together and take his own style and technique forward.
DJing at School events and local house parties in his college years chef first got the music bug from his mum when he has 10 years old . Chefs mum used to by the latest sounds from the charts on vinyl and be responsible for bringing her record box to family events this is where chef would now be the one putting on the tunes at the parties for his mum.
Chef first got into the studio with Certain Criteria and the junglist Point Blank crew around 1996 who were releasing music on ToneDef at the time and through a close network of friends hanging out at local Eastend record shops with Forest gates De Underground crew who comprised of; Mikey De Underground, Randall & Mc Fats. Marley Marl, CoolHand Flex, Uncle 22Archie, DJ Bud, ,Hornet, Redant, Hoppa & Bones to name a few
