Black Herstory

DJ Flight Presents Black Herstory: celebrating the past, present, and future contributions of Black women artists in the Breakbeat Hardcore/ Jungle/ D&B genre.

About

Black Herstory began life as social media posts during UK Black History Month 2019, to highlight women who've worked in front and behind the scenes of Jungle D&B over time, and try to bring some balance to the consistent lack of support and coverage by music publications and platforms.

In the earlier stages of COVID lockdowns, Flight and EQ50 discussed a number of things they'd like to do - one being a Black Herstory online stream featuring various artists from the very beginning to present day, following on from the BHM series and tribute t-shirts. It didn't come to pass then, but with hindsight it wasn't the right time...

Fast forward to January 2023. Flight received an email from Deep Medi Musik inviting her to curate a lineup for their next venue takeover. A beautiful surprise! And no brainer to bring the sistars too.

Black women/ nb artists are still largely overlooked, undervalued, missing from too many events, rosters, features, conversations. It was an honour to bring *some* of the incredible talent who've laid foundations, pioneered, influenced, graced our scene to a world-renowned club, fabric London on Friday, 28th April 2023 for the debut Black Herstory event - the first of its kind in the history of our music.

Heartfelt thanks to Mala & Steph, fabric crew, incredible artists, amazing crowd, and everyone who supported in some way. Relive the joy exclusively on Kool FM.
